DoggyLife — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-09
DoggyLife ("we", "us") provides an app for tracking your dog's health, care, walks, training, and community features like Lost & Found. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.
Information we collect
- Account: your email address, authenticated via Supabase Auth or Google Sign-In; the name you choose to show to other people (for example in chats and notifications); and the language you use in the app, which we store so that notifications we send you arrive in that language.
- Dog profile: name, breed, birth date, weight, photos, and health records you enter (vaccinations, medicines, vet visits, notes), and the daily care you log: meals, activities, weight, walks, and training history. This is stored in your account and is visible to the people you invite to your dog's profile.
- Sitters, guests and invitations (optional): when you invite a family member, sitter or guest, we store the email address you type with the invitation and send them an invitation email through our email provider. If that person has no account yet, the email address stays with the pending invitation until they sign up with it, answer it, you remove it, or you delete your account. A sitter or guest has access to your dog only for the number of days you choose, and you can end it at any time. During that time they can see the care instructions you wrote (feeding, medicine, walks, vet contact, and a phone number only if you add one) and can mark that the dog was fed, walked or given medicine, or leave a short note. Those marks and notes are visible to you and your family, and you receive a notification with that person's name. If a sitter or guest records a walk with GPS, the walk (its route on the map, time, distance and steps) is saved to your dog's walk history, so you and your family can open it from the mark and see where the dog went; their location is recorded only between the Start and Finish they press. Health records, weight and the family chat are not shown to guests.
- Reminders: reminders you write in the app are stored in your account so they appear on all your devices; only you can see the ones you add from the Home screen, while family reminders are visible to the people you invite to your dog's profile.
- Phone number (optional): if you add a phone number to a Lost & Found announcement, it is shown to other users of the app so they can contact you about the dog. Leave it empty to keep it private.
- Collar QR code (optional): if you create a QR code for your dog, anyone who scans the code can open a public web page (doggylifeapp.com/d/…) showing your dog's name and breed and, only if you choose, the dog's photo, your first name, a short note, and a phone number you type in for this purpose. Nothing is public until you create the QR code. The phone number is off by default, is shown only after you agree to that in the app, and is deleted from our servers when you switch it off. Health data, weight, microchip number, family members, and your location are never part of the page. You can switch the QR code off, replace its code (the old link stops working), or delete it at any time; the page is not indexed by search engines and is never cached.
- Location: used only when you enable "Use GPS in DoggyLife" in Settings — for tracking walks, and for Lost & Found reports and nearby search. While a walk you started is running, the route keeps being recorded when the screen is locked or the app is in the background (your phone shows a location indicator, or on Android a notification), and it stops as soon as you finish the walk. We do not track your location at any other time in the background. When you search for nearby veterinary clinics or dog parks, your position is sent to Mapbox and to our server, which looks places up in OpenStreetMap using a rounded position and keeps the answer only briefly in temporary memory; it is not stored with your account. You separately control whether a report shows your precise location and your phone number.
- Messages: family chat messages (visible to people you invite to your dog's profile), Lost & Found conversation messages (visible only to you and the other participant), and the private chat between a dog's owner and a sitter or guest (visible only to those two people, and only while the guest's access lasts; not to the family and not to other guests). Messages you report can be reviewed by us.
- AI conversations: questions and photos you send to AI Doctor, AI Trainer, or the AI Food Scanner are sent to our AI providers (Google Vertex AI / Gemini, and OpenAI or OpenRouter as fallbacks) to generate a reply. We do not use this content to train third-party AI models. The text of your AI conversations (not the photos) is also saved to your account so your chat history is restored on a new phone; only you can see it, and you can delete a conversation from the chat history at any time.
- Voice input: if you tap the microphone in a chat, your phone's own speech recognition (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android) turns what you say into text. We never receive or store the audio; only the text you choose to send reaches us.
- Push notification token: a device identifier (via Firebase Cloud Messaging) used to deliver message alerts. A notification for a message contains the sender's name and the text of the message. Reminders for walks, training, health records and the weekly summary are scheduled on your phone and do not go through our servers.
- Subscription data: if you purchase DoggyLife+, Apple or Google sends us a purchase receipt, which we verify directly with Apple/Google to activate your subscription. We store only the resulting entitlement status, not your payment details — Apple/Google handle all billing. If we offer a free period of DoggyLife+ features, we work out whether you are in it from the date your account was created; no payment information is involved.
- Travel requests: if you send a "Travel with your dog" request, we receive what you type in the form: your name, e-mail address, phone or WhatsApp number (optional), the route, dates and addresses you give, your dog's details (name, breed, colour, birth date, sex, weight, size, temperament, microchip number, and which travel documents you already have), your comments. We do not ask for passport numbers, copies of documents or photos.
How we use this information
To provide the app's features: showing your dog's records and reminders, answering AI questions, delivering push notifications, enabling family sharing (only with people you explicitly invite), and running the Lost & Found community board. We do not sell your personal data.
Who we share data with
Only the service providers needed to run the app: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage, and real-time sync), Google Cloud / Vertex AI, OpenAI and OpenRouter (AI chat fallback providers), Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications), Resend (sending invitation emails), Mapbox (map display and location search), OpenStreetMap (data on nearby clinics and parks, requested through our server so that your phone does not contact it directly), and Apple/Google (subscription billing). If you send a "Travel with your dog" request and tick the box that agrees to it, we pass your request to a partner company (a transport or relocation service) so that it can contact you; we do not share it with anyone else for that purpose. Family chat messages are visible only to people you invite to that dog's profile. Lost & Found reports are public safety information visible to other users, scoped to what you choose to include. A collar QR code page is visible to anyone who has the code, limited to what you choose to show on it.
Your controls
- Turn GPS use on or off, and choose whether reports show your precise location and your phone number, in Settings → Privacy & security.
- Remove a family member, sitter or guest from your dog's access at any time in Family & access.
- Choose which notification categories you receive in Settings → Notifications.
- Switch your dog's QR code off, hide or remove your phone number and photo from it, replace its code, or delete it from the dog's profile.
- Delete a Lost & Found conversation from your own inbox at any time (it stays visible to the other participant).
- Ask us to delete a travel request at any time by emailing support@doggylifeapp.com.
- Delete your account at any time in Settings → Account — this permanently removes your account and the data associated with it. If you no longer have the app, see how to delete your account and data.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we permanently delete your profile, health records, messages you sent, and other associated data, except where a copy remains with another person you shared it with directly (e.g. a family chat message someone else received, or a Lost & Found conversation the other participant kept). An invitation to someone without an account, and the email address on it, is kept until it is answered or removed, or until the account that sent it is deleted. A travel request is kept for up to 12 months and then deleted.
Children's privacy
DoggyLife is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect your data, including encrypted connections and database-level access controls (row-level security) that restrict who can read or write each piece of data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date above.
